Opened in 1909, the notorious Long Bay Prison Complex has 6 prisons on site housing over 1200 inmates. With so many inmates living there, it is more like a city than a gaol. For the past 115 years, Long Bay Jail has housed the worst criminals in NSW. Ivan Milat, Neddy Smith and Anita Cobby murderer Michael Murphy have lived and died behind the walls of Long Bay. In its long history, it's seen riots, murders and executions, and it is still open to this day, housing the worst of the worst.

If you're a crim and you played up in a Sydney jail, you were sent to Maitland Jail to adjust your behaviour or face the consequences. It was your last chance. Behave or be flogged. Continue to misbehave and you'd be sent to the horrors of Grafton Jail. Maitland Jail is the longest continuously operating prison in Australia, housing prisoners for 150 years.
